2017 Winner | Vermont Mutual Insurance Group
Vermont Mutual Insurance Group is the winner of the prestigious and highly anticipated Deane C Davis Outstanding Business of the Year Award, 2017. Vermont Business Magazine and the Vermont Chamber of Commerce announced the annual award May 24, during the opening ceremonies of the Vermont Business Expo at the DoubleTree by Hilton, Burlington.
Presented by Governor Phil Scott, this annual award honors a Vermont business that shows an outstanding history of sustained growth while displaying an acute awareness of what makes Vermont unique. The award, named for the former governor of Vermont, was created 28 years ago by Vermont Business Magazine and the Vermont Chamber of Commerce to recognize and honor the state’s best companies.
Vermont Mutual President and CEO Dan Bridge accepted the award on behalf of his Montpelier-based firm and especially thanked the Vermont customers and independent insurance agents for being great customers and clients for nearly 200 years.
“It really is important to buy local," he said.
Vermont Mutual Insurance Group was chartered in 1828 and is one of the ten oldest property/casualty insurers in the United States. They have operated continuously since that time in Montpelier, Vermont. Vermont Mutual Insurance Group’s strategy produces results that are closely aligned with the Deane C Davis Standards of excellence. They support a comprehensive recycling program, work with Efficiency Vermont and Kilowatt Technology to run their buildings as efficiently as possible and they support Green-up Vermont.
Their sales have increased 41% over the last five years and have increased their customer base by over 300,000 in the same time frame. In addition, they have added over 50 full-time employees over the past five years, a 24% increase. They have also contributed over $300,000 to 125 worthy organizations though the Vermont Mutual Charitable Giving Fund in 2017. Vermont Mutual Insurance Group has also supported almost 1,000 hours of community service by their staff.

The two other impressive finalists for the Deane C Davis Outstanding Business of the Year Award were City Market and Kalow Technologies.
