ADAM Lamson

25 | United Association | Director of Business Development & Training
Residence: Waterbury Center

Career highlight(s): The career highlight I'm most proud of is the success and growth we have achieved with UA Local 693 (Vermont Labor Union) over the past couple years. We were able to launch successful recruitment and marketing campaigns to grow membership and strengthen our organization as a whole. Furthermore, with our efforts we are able to provide fellow Vermonters with better access to better healthcare, retirement benefits and more that they may not have had access to prior to being a member of the United Association.

Community Involvement: The bulk of my community involvement over the past couple years has been coaching the fishing team at our local High School. Myself and another coach have been able to put together a great program that introduces kids to the sport who have interest or those who may not have access to it in Vermont. We teach kids the tools and mechanics as well the importance of sportsmanship and being conservationists when it comes to protecting the many great bodies of water in Vermont.
I also have taken great interest in introducing young people into the sport of hunting in Vermont. I take great pride in teaching kids the right ways to hunt and be safe while doing so. Hunting is a big part of Vermont heritage and it is important to continue it through generations as Vermont hunters are the biggest supporters of wildlife and conservation in the state.

What motivated you to live and work in Vermont? Vermont overall is just an amazing place to live and conduct business. From its natural beauty to its kind and supportive communities, its hard to go wrong when it comes to choosing here as a place to live. I regard Vermont as being one of the last "business frontiers" in the North East. With Vermonters being locally conscious it empowers a lot of great minds to be creative and entrepreneurial. You have the ability to create here and have a community behind you to support and grow whatever it is. It is evident in the many craft beer businesses that have been started, the many mom and pop shops we have in the state, or the many local maple sugaring operations we have.

Favorite part of your job: My favorite part of my job is the opportunity to be creative. With marketing and advertising you get to think outside the box, develop unique content, and strategize to accomplish organizational goals. It can be difficult, but it is extremely rewarding to see the results of your efforts.

What three words best describe you: Three words that best describe me are resourceful, determined, and stubborn (sometimes).

Favorite Vermont escape: My favorite Vermont escape is northern Lake Champlain and the Champlain Islands. Being an avid fisherman, Lake Champlain is one of my happy places. I also love spending time in the Mount Mansfield State Forest.

Favorite downtime activity: My favorite downtime activities are bass fishing and deer hunting. Hard to beat spending time in the outdoors.

If you had unlimited access to funds, which cause(s) would you support: The cause I would support is the protection and expansion of both federal & state public lands and water bodies. I think the expansion of public lands not only protects our ecosystems but it also provides people with many outdoor activities and opportunities.

What career goal(s) would you like to accomplish in the next 5-10 years? The career goals I'd like to accomplish in the next 5-10 years are getting a few small companies I have started off the ground and growing. Currently in the start up phase with these, I look forward to seeing where myself and business partners can take them.

How has your job changed since this pandemic? During the pandemic, the training portion of my position changed drastically. In order to keep apprentices on track with their classes we had to pivot to zoom and other virtual classroom platforms. It was difficult with scheduling and making sure everyone was on the same page, but we prevailed and we were able to offer classes and keep everyone on track for their completion of the program.
