BETSY Hassan
Company: Rutland Regional Medical Center
Title: Chief Nursing Officer
Age: 36
Career Highlights: The career highlight I am most proud of is having the distinguished honor to represent nursing at the highest level at RRMC, as well as within the Magnet framework. Nursing is an incredible profession that I have been fortunate to call my career and life's work. I am so honored to lead the incredible nursing staff of the Rutland Regional Medical Center and empower them to care for our community through advocacy, innovation, and evidence based practice.
Community Involvement: I am active within the nursing community through serving as the Vermont-American Nurses Association Vice President, a member of the North East Multi-State Division board of directors, and the Sigma Theta Tau International Nursing Honors Society Nu Beta Chapter committee member. I enjoy participating in other Rutland areas events such as The Real Rutland Feud, Come Alive Outside, and other hospital based community outreach programs.
What motivated you to live and work in Vermont? I was motivated to live and work in Vermont because I was born and raised here. As my schooling and career took me outside of the area for a number years, it was always my intention to return to the Rutland community to raise my family. The sense of community, especially in Rutland, is something my husband and I have always appreciated about Vermont and what we wanted for our children.
Most inspiring mentor and why: I've been fortunate to have many mentors throughout my career. Recently, my most meaningful mentor relationships have been with Carol Egan who's helped me to see my potential as a nurse leader; John Wallace who's helped me to develop executive leadership skills; and my mom who's demonstrated a passion for lifelong learning and has always encouraged me on my professional journey.
What three words best describe you? Effervescent. Engaging. Innovative.
Person you would most like to share a Vermont beverage with: The person I'd most like to share a Vermont beverage with is my father, Fritz Harlow. He passed away when I was young, and I'd love to share my accomplishments with him.
