Favorite Part of Job? Change is often times difficult for many because what is unknown can be daunting or frightening. I feel so fortunate to be able to help Vermonters understand the health care changes and the products being offered on the exchange. It is rewarding when people leave our Information and Wellness Center feeling positive and comforted.
Most Inspiring Mentor: I feel so fortunate and blessed to have crossed paths with many remarkable mentors. Catherine Hamilton has given me guidance and inspires me each day to serve people positively, and has proven that success is achievable at so many levels. My high school business teacher Nichole Forest gave me all the tools and resources to be a successful professional. And my mother is the best friend and support system ever. These three women inspire me in ways that allow me to grow professionally and live a life void of service.
Tell us something fun about yourself that few people know: I played Belle in Beauty and the Beast the Musical.
Favorite Downtime Activity: Exercising and Reading, I can never get enough of the two.
Favorite Vermont Escape: My parents’ home in Bennington, because even though I only live a few hours away, every time I come home I am treated with so much love and completely spoiled by my wonderful family.
Favorite Social Media: LinkedIn.
Favorite Website: Google News, I have a constant need to know what is going on in the world.
Vermont Business Person you would most want to Network with: I would most want to Network with Dennise Casey because what she has achieved for herself at such a young age is inspiring and shows me that with determination, dedication, and desire that anything is possible.
Career Highlights: As a 23 year old my career is just beginning. I feel fortunate to have been hired by Blue Cross Blue Shield of Vermont a month before I graduated college, during a crucial time of change in the health care industry. I was hired to coordinate an innovative satellite office open to the public that provides health care reform information, and hosts wellness events. Four months into my career I was promoted to serve as a Health Care Exchange Specialist to assist members through the changes. In this role, I have been fortunate to travel the state, and see Vermonters through the remarkable changes that have occurred as a result of the Affordable Care Act. I feel particularly lucky to have had the opportunity to meet people from all walks of life, socioeconomic statuses, and backgrounds. Being a part of such a historical time in my chosen industry has been life changing, and I am excited to see what the future holds for my career.
Community Involvement: To give is the greatest gift of all, and I sincerely enjoy giving back to the community. One of the many things I love about the company I work for are the numerous opportunities that we have to give back and contribute to the wellness of our community. This year I was involved with the Dragon Boat Festival through Blue Cross Blue Shield of Vermont. I served as a National March of Dimes Representative, raised funds for the Children’s Miracle Network, as well as the American Lung Association in memory of my father. The most moving volunteer experience that I have been blessed to be a part of was serving as a camp counselor at Camp Agape, a camp for children with incarcerated parents. Spending time with those young ladies and being able to mentor them is something I will forever cherish.
