JAMIE Burdick

Company: Marathon Health
Title: Senior Clinical Training Specialist
Age: 36

Career Highlights: At Marathon Health, I support new and existing ambassadors across Marathon Nation. I have created clinical competency courses (from scratch) for our clinicians. Having the opportunity to standardize best practices is immensely valuable in supporting our clinicians and promoting patient safety across our health centers. I also serve on several internal committees including the Supply Committee and Well in Winooski, which supports our local corporate culture and well-being. In October 2018, I was nominated and received the S.T.A.R award, which awards ambassadors who show exemplary achievement, performance, and create an atmosphere that is welcoming to all.

Community Involvement: Ever since I could remember, I wanted to be a firefighter like my dad.  Shortly after graduating from Essex High school, I had the opportunity to join Essex Rescue and Essex Junction Fire Department. Over the last 18 years, I have had the opportunity to be a part of Vermont EMS in many different communities Essex, Charlotte, Colchester, Georgia, and Richmond as EMT/Paramedic. Being involved in Vermont EMS has opened so many doors to get involved in the communities beyond the patient care with coordination of events like Touch A Truck, Teaching CPR, National Deployment to Texas during Hurricane Katrina, Gustav, and Ike, Mock Crash Presentations, Family Fun and Safety Night, Developing a Social Service Referral Program with Vermont VNA Association.  I have also had the opportunity to volunteer with some great local nonprofits such as Ronald McDonald House, RunVermont, Girls on the Run, Spectrum Youth and Family Services’, and Camp Ta-Kum-Ta.

What motivated you to live and work in Vermont? I was very fortunate to grow up here, and can't imagine myself anywhere else.

Favorite part of your job? I love that I have so many different opportunities to be challenged and opportunities to connect to all the different teams across Marathon Nation. One of my favorite things is training new ambassadors (we refer to employees as ambassadors) in Vermont for immersion week and then seeing them again at their health center and how they have grown into their role.

Most inspiring mentor and why: I have been fortunate to have many inspirational mentors throughout my life who have gotten me to where I am today. My dad instilled in my brothers and me the importance of volunteerism and work ethic. My mom taught me to treat others as I would want to be treated, to try new things, and never stop learning.  Craig Butkus and Kate Soons guided and supported me throughout my EMS career and finally Lisa Murphy who always challenges me to be my best self and to see opportunity in everything.

What is the best career advice you have received? Perception is everything and get good at doing something you love, and find people who are willing to pay you for it- do not let anyone sway you otherwise.

Tell us something fun about yourself that few people know: I am a total Murderino! I love My Favorite Murder Podcast, Archer Mayor Joe Gunther Book Series, or anything-true crime related.

What three words best describe you? Social. Motivated. Reliable.

Favorite Vermont escape: Too many to choose- Shelburne Vineyard, Jay Peak, Sugarbush, Lake Bomoseen, or run on the Colchester Causeway or Rail Trail.

Favorite downtime activity: Snuggling my boys, training for the next Run Disney event, OTF, or camping with family and friends.

Favorite super hero: My boys like Batman and Spiderman. Although I’m not a big superhero fan, I love listening to them plot and problem solve just like their heroes.

Favorite social media: I am a sucker for Instagram. #802runner #MotherRunner #RunDisney #Addicted

If you had unlimited access to funds which cause(s) would you support: Vermont has so many great local causes that I would love to support. Make a Wish Foundation of Vermont, Camp Ta-Kum-Ta, Vermont Adaptive Ski and Sports are at the top of my list. Also The Code Green Campaign and First Responders Children’s Foundation.

What one song is on your playlist that are you ashamed to tell your best friend? There would be no shame in my game. My bestest would be rocking right out next to me- Love Myself-Hailee Steinfeild, Low-Flo Rida, Party Up-DMX or anything by Taylor Swift!
