Favorite Part of Job: I get to work in very diverse communities throughout Miami-Dade County that are experiencing different public health issues. I work with a wide range of people from all over the world that bring different perspectives to certain community challenges. We work together to problem solve, implement evidence-based practices, and study the results.
Tell us something fun about yourself that few people know: I backpacked throughout Europe for two weeks with two hundred dollars to my name wearing the same outfit the entire time. One of the best experience of my life!
Favorite Vermont Escape: When I first moved to Vermont ten years ago, my husband and I would jump in the car every weekend and drive throughout Vermont with no agenda but to explore beautiful towns in VT. This is still one of my favorite things to do in VT.
Favorite downtime activity: I love to travel anywhere where I can learn something new, interact with people who are different from me, and eat the local food!
Person you would like to share a Vermont beverage with: Anderson Cooper or Megyn Kelly. Both are very different people but I really enjoy their reporting and television shows. Both seem down to earth and typically remain somewhat neutral on political issues which is rare these days on national news programs.
What is the best career advice you have received? Do not ever burn bridges. You may not agree with a policy, decision, or particular style but the world is too small to burn bridges!
Where do you see yourself professionally in ten years? Living in Vermont for the past ten years, I have developed an interest in politics. We live in such a unique state where you can develop quick relationships with the movers and shakers of the state. This is a state where I feel you can have an influence and get important work done. I love community work and implementing different strategies to bring about positive change.
Community Involvement:
-Volunteering to assist Police Chief Jim Baker and Mayor Louras on a strategic outcome based plan for Rutland to address substance abuse and crime.
-Instrumental in forming Project VISION, which is a grassroots public health, city-wide, state-wide coalition that is looking to improve crime/safety, instill a sense of community and pride, revitalize certain areas of Rutland, and deal with substance abuse in the Rutland community.
United Way of Rutland County, community impact director
-Responsible for shifting agency funding from a tradition application model to a strategic funding model that is based on community root cause issues to produce long term community improvement
-Provide support for policy development
Received the 2013 Vocational Rotary Club Award.
Presenter throughout the state of VT on innovative public health initiatives.
Testified to numerous legislative committees on drug court and the important of evidence-based practices and programs.
Presenter at the November 2013 Innovative Criminal Justice Practices Conference at VLS.
