Favorite Part of Job? The collaboration of many stakeholders for the common goal of promoting skiing and riding in Vermont. We are supported not only by our 50 Nordic and Alpine members, but also valuable marketing partners from a variety of different industries to grow market share. I enjoy working with the variety of organizations and marvel at the amount of teamwork within the industry.
Most Inspiring Mentor: Kathy Murphy has been a positive influence in my career thus far. I admire her creativity, energy and work ethic. I respect her achievements and she inspires me to aim high.
Tell us something fun about yourself that few people know: My parents chose the name Kyle because they liked it so much for Kyle Petty (Richard Petty’s son, the King of NASCAR). They decided that if I were a boy or a girl, that I would be named Kyle.
Favorite Hobby: Skiing, of course! I try to get at least 50 days on snow every year.
Favorite Vermont Escape: Discovering new places or events that I haven’t been to before. There is so much to do and see in Vermont, I enjoy finding something new!
Favorite Social Media: Facebook, it’s been a part of my life nearly a decade and I get to see what my friends near and far are up to.
Favorite Website: Skivermont.com. It is the first website that I have been a part in creating from start to finish.
Vermont Business Person you would like to have lunch with: Bill Stenger. Although Bill and I have met several times, it would be great to be able to sit down in an informal setting to talk about life, skiing, Vermont and economic growth.
Career Highlights: When I worked at Sugarbush, I helped get a group called the Kids of Courage on snow. These kids came in with support staff to Vermont Adaptive at Mount Ellen. Watching them ski for the first time opened my eyes to the wonderful world of adaptive sports. I was also very proud to accept two marketing awards for the Check in to win program with Ski Vermont in the first year of the social media program. Being named as a Rising Star also tops the list, I am honored to be among a group of talented young people in this state.
Community Involvement: In my role here at Ski Vermont, I have been the Vice Chair of the Vermont Travel Industry Conference for two years, a conference which looks to educate the tourism community throughout the state so they can go out and marketing their property to the best of their ability. I have also been elected to the Steering Committee as a regional effort to bring new skiers and riders to the sport. The group, the New England Growth initiative, has been working to bring together all resorts across New England as well as manufacturers, media and retailers to band together to promote the sport. I enjoy being an influencer of both the tourism and ski/ ride communities.
Through my work life and personal life, I have been involved with adaptive skiing and riding through Vermont Adaptive over the years, the High Fives Foundation and the Kelly Brush Foundation. Their efforts humble me, and I try to help in any way that I can. Between my personal and work life I have helped support Camp Ta-Kum-Ta, Green Mountain Adventure Races, The Northern Forest Canoe Trail, Governor’s Council on Physical Fitness’ Corporate Cup, Vermont Mountain Bike Association, Meals on Wheels, and participated in community softball and dodge ball leagues. Although I quickly found out the dodge ball isn't my game. I would rather be on the hill.
