Career highlights you are most proud of.
My deepest sense of pride stems from the most challenging endeavor I’ve been a part of. In the midst of the COVID shutdown, the small yet dedicated team at the Department of Economic Development toiled tirelessly — working day, nights and weekends — to establish the COVID Business Recovery Grant Program. Being at the forefront of the program’s creation, implementation and operation, and bringing together a team of interagency and organizational staff to review applications, which ultimately acted as a vital lifeline for thousands of Vermont businesses during our most trying times, was a truly impactful experience.
Community involvement.
I proudly serve as a member of the board of advisors for the Center for Women and Enterprise. This role allows me to contribute to the empowerment and growth of an organization that is doing a tremendous job serving female-powered businesses, helping them navigate the challenges of business and reach their full potential. I serve on the board of directors for the Community Sailing Center, which elevates a value of environmental stewardship through educational and recreational lake access opportunities and extends an open invitation to everyone, regardless of age, gender, race or physical ability. In 2022, I was elected to serve as a justice of the peace in Jericho, which includes a seat on the Board ofAbatement and the Board of Civil Authority. In these roles, we work together to address local tax and electoral issues, ensuring the equitable treatment of our fellow residents and fair and free elections in our town. Beyond these formal roles, as a mom of two I am involved in volunteering with my kids’ schools and with their athletic and music organizations.
Motivation for living and working in Vermont.
I’m a Vermont native who loves my home state. I have lived abroad and in a city but missed this place and returned, becoming a Vermonter by choice. I cherish the traditions and opportunities here, our tight-knit yet accepting communities, and the local businesses that make this state so special. This fuels my work to advance Vermont’s economy for all Vermonters, be they native, by choice or both.
Favorite part of your job.
Working and collaborating with individuals who are wholeheartedly dedicated to the vision of a prosperous Vermont. While the work is challenging, the shared motivation for our state to be a place where businesses, individuals and communities can flourish make going to work each day incredibly fulfilling.
Most inspiring mentors.
Both of my parents have been incredible mentors in my life. Watching their journey as business owners, employers and leaders has been and inspiration for me and plays a significant role in informing my advocacy for Vermont as a place where business and people can thrive. Their unwavering integrity and grace have been guiding lights for me when facing challenges, and the happiness they bring to those they touch has imparted a profound lesson on the significance of living with joy in every facet of life.
Best career advice you have received.
Always maintain your integrity. Being known for your honesty and ethical conduct will not only earn you respect but also help you face challenges and open doors to opportunities.
Something fun about yourself that few people know.
If you find yourself strolling down Church Street in Burlington on a Saturday afternoon in December, you might spot me among a gathering of tuba, sousaphone and baritone players at the Merry Tuba Christmas concert.
Favorite Vermont escape.
I love both camping with my family at Ricker Pond State Park or enjoying a glass of champagne and conversation at Salt and Bubbles in Essex.
Favorite downtime activities.
Paddleboarding in the summer and cross-country skiing in the winter. They are both really peaceful ways to escape into nature.
Person you would most like to share a Vermont beverage with.
My husband. He is my constant companion in exploring the beauty of this state and our life together, turning a simple drink into a newly shared memory. What could be better than that?
