Favorite Part of Job? Producing a complicated, live broadcast gives me endless opportunities to make order out of chaos, which I thoroughly enjoy. I love delivering a deep, smart interview to listeners. Plus, the camaraderie and dark humor of the newsroom make me laugh really hard, every day.
Most Inspiring Mentor: John Van Hoesen gave me my first job in journalism as a part-time, entry level factotum in the VPR newsroom. In the 12 years since, I have been continually inspired, educated and made better by all of my colleagues.
Tell us something fun about yourself that few people know: I'm wait-listed for the 2015 Antarctica Marathon. I hope the extremity of this race will scare me into actually training for it.
Favorite Downtime Activity: What is this downtime you speak of? I like creative, crafty projects -- anything from decorating cakes to painting walls to sewing quilts. I also spend entirely too much time following the NFL.
Favorite Vermont Escape: I gravitate to water more than mountains, not that the mountains aren't amazing too. I find myself frequently, gleefully blurting out, "Can you believe we live here?!"
Favorite Social Media: Facebook is fun for swapping comments with far-flung friends and acquaintances. Twitter is really useful for following breaking stories or finding information on granular topics.
Favorite Website: Well, clearly my favorite web site is vpr.net. That, or vpr.net/vermontedition.
Vermont Business Person you would most want to Network with: By "network with" do you mean "report on"? Everyone.
Career Highlights: Creating Vermont Edition, building it from the ground up, and training and leading the team that keeps it strong each day has been the best accomplishment of my career, so far. We provided hours of live, daily coverage after Tropical Storm Irene, and I am immensely proud of what my team put into that coverage. Vermont Edition has received national industry recognition for our work, and it's gratifying to have the respect of our peers.
Community Involvement: The kind of journalism we aim to practice at VPR is a public service in and of itself. I feel deeply involved in the lives and issues of all the communities we serve. And, I always pick up litter. Really, people: use a trash can. It's basic.
