SHANA Louiselle

Favorite Part of Job? Out of all the things I like about my job, the common denominator comes down to the people. My communications role at VELCO provides me the opportunity to meet new and interesting people at every corner.  I also have the pleasure to work with incredibly smart and creative colleagues during a time of exciting transformation in the utility industry!

Most Inspiring Mentor: I am blessed with an older sister who is the epitome of honesty, strength, intelligence and success. Her determination and hard work inspires me to be the best person I can be. Thank you for all of your encouragement and support, Tara.

Tell us something fun about yourself that few people know: I like watching survivor shows on TV. My husband and hike and camp often, and I am convinced we could survive the elements should the need ever arise!

Favorite Vermont Escape: The Chittenden Reservoir is my favorite place to escape. All I need is a kayak, my fishing pole and a good book.

Favorite Downtime Activity: Cooking is usually a matter of convenience in our household. But when I have a free Sunday I love to peruse cooking magazines and choose a challenging recipe I’ve never tried before. The clean up afterwards…not so much.

Favorite Social Media: Facebook keeps me connected with friends and family and it's an easy way to see what's happening in my community. I love to use my own profile page to share positive news, community events, and the occasional photo of my cat, Charlie.

Person you would like to share a Vermont beverage with: I would like to share a VT beverage with anyone who is thinking about moving to Vermont. I would convince them this is the best place to live, work and play before they’re finished with that Long Trail Ale.

What is the best career advice you have received? Step out of your comfort zone and always be willing to learn something new.

Career Highlights: I returned to Vermont after college to work at family owned newspaper in Killington.  I learned a great deal of valuable skills working closely with the sales manager and publisher. In 2009, I was invited to join the VELCO team in the communications department where I helped manage the company’s public outreach program for electric transmission projects. I currently serve as the Communications & Policy Advocate managing corporate communications and governmental affairs. Since 2012, I’ve assisted the facilitation of the Vermont System Planning Committee, a statewide collaborative stakeholder process for addressing electric grid reliability planning in Vermont.  In 2015 I enrolled into the MBA program at College of Saint Joseph in Rutland, VT and expect to receive my degree in December 2016.

Community Involvement: I feel fortunate to have grown up in Rutland County. This community helped shape the person I am today and because of that I take pride in serving for organizations trying to make a positive difference in the place I call home.
